On the morning of June 12, 2025, the School of Humanities of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the National University of Singapore (NUS) held their first exchange symposium at CUPL’s Haidian Campus. This inaugural event established a foundation for potential collaborations in humanities and social sciences between the two prestigious institutions.
Associate Professor Koh Kheeheong, Vice Director of NUS’s Department of Chinese, represented the Singaporean side. Prof. Zhao Xiaohua, Dean of CUPL’s School of Humanities, led the Chinese delegation, accompanied by Associate Professor Cui Yuzhen from the Department of Chinese Literature and Language, Associate Professor Wang Xueshen from the Institute of History, and foreign affairs secretary Sun Xuying.
At the start of the symposium, Dean Zhao Xiaohua warmly welcomed Associate Professor Koh and shared about the School of Humanities’ unique academic features and teaching models. “We hope to create more opportunities for our teachers and students through different kinds of cooperation,” Zhao said. Associate Professor Koh Kheeheong then introduced NUS’s Department of Chinese, talking about majors such as Chinese Language and Literature and Sinology. He also mentioned the department’s strong team of scholars with many research achievements, expressing NUS’s interest in working together.
During the discussion, Associate Professor Cui Yuzhen and Wang Xueshen proposed practical cooperation ideas based on their own fields, helping to clarify the future cooperation plans. Both sides agreed to start student exchange programs and joint courses, aiming to build a long-term cooperation relationship. These plans are designed to broaden students’ views and enhance the academic influence of the two schools. “By combining our advantages, we can achieve better results in research and training talents,” the representatives from both sides agreed.
This symposium set a robust foundation for future cooperation between the two institutions. Next, two institutions will work out detailed cooperation plans, carry out projects, and work jointly to cultivate excellent students and promote academic development in humanities and social sciences.
