Logic is a subdiscipline of philosophy. It is one of the earliest disciplines enrolling master students in CUPL. Students can earn a master’s degree in Logic since 1985.

Logic takes inference and argumentation as its main research objects, and is closely related to disciplines such as law, mathematics, computer science, and linguistics. While emphasizing theoretical research on logic, this master’s program advocates the combination of logic and related disciplines, and encourages interdisciplinary research.

The master’s degree program now enrolls graduate students in three directions: Legal Logic, Formal Logic, and Scientific Methodology. The direction of Legal Logic mainly focuses on the study of the laws, rules and methods of Legal Analysis, Factual Reasoning, Legal Reasoning and Judgment Argumentation, and has a wide range of applications in legal research and legal practice. The direction of Formal Logic mainly focuses on the study of the basic forms of thinking and its laws, which not only promotes the development of logic itself, but also provides support for logic tools for philosophy, linguistics and cognitive science. Scientific methodology focuses on the study of the general principles of social science methodology and natural science methodology. It not only enriches the research content of logical methodology, but also integrates with social sciences and natural sciences such as philosophy, economics, sociology, management, political science, and law.
