This course is divided into two parts. The first part will focus on Plato's philosophy; the second part concerns Nietzsche's philosophy. The first part will examine Plato’s discussions of “virtue”, “power” and “love”. The texts that will be studied are: Protagoras, Gorgias, Symposium and Phaedrus. The second part will focus on some crucial topics in Nietzsche’s Philosophy such as “love”, “value” and “genealogy”. The texts that will be studied are Beyond good and evil and On the genealogy of morality. Through a detailed textual reading, this course aims to gain an in-depth understanding of the possibility of dialogue between Plato and Nietzsche, and to reveal the similarities and differences between ancient and modern philosophy. |
