Phenomenology of Law: Basic Concepts, Contemporary Authors

Brief

The course aims to offer the student an introduction to the study of phenomenology as applied to the realm of law. Although phenomenology does not represent a major traditional line of investigation in the ambit of legal studies, the classes will seek to show how fruitful the phenomenological method can be for the comprehension of law.

The course will fall into two main parts: the first part will be devoted to a theoretical introduction to main concepts and notion in the domain of law viewed through the lenses of the phenomenological approach. The second part will be devoted to an introductory presentation to some of the main authors who, in the contemporary philosophical tradition, have engaged the issue of law from the phenomenological.
